Former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton expressed her view that voters are entitled to take President Joe Biden’s age into account while deliberating whether he should be re-elected for a second term in office. Clinton made these comments during a Financial Times event in Washington, D.C., where she was questioned about Biden’s near fall while descending the steps at the G-7 meeting in Japan. She stated that although younger presidents have fallen down in the past, no one had experienced “heart palpitations” as a result. Clinton emphasized that Biden’s age is a valid factor for voters to consider.
Clinton further highlighted Biden’s popular saying of not judging him against an ideal candidate but rather against the alternative. She presented her case for why he should be re-elected. Clinton expressed her hope that Biden maintains his focus and runs for re-election.
Biden himself recently admitted that his decision to run for office again was not automatic and acknowledged that his advanced age is a legitimate consideration. If he were to serve a second term, he would be the oldest person ever elected president, reaching 86 years old by the end of his tenure.
