According to a recently unearthed FBI document, President Joe Biden and his son, Hunter Biden, allegedly received payments of $5 million each from an executive at Burisma Holdings, a Ukrainian natural gas company. This information was obtained from a confidential source by the FBI in June 2020, detailed in the FBI-generated FD-1023 form. The confidential source has reportedly been a trusted informant for the FBI since 2010, earning approximately $200,000 for the information.
This confidential informant detailed interactions with a senior executive at Burisma over several years starting in 2015. The informant was allegedly sought for advice on obtaining U.S. oil rights and entering the U.S. oil market. The informant questioned why Burisma sought their advice while having Hunter Biden, who held a lucrative position on the board of Burisma, at their disposal.
The Burisma executive reportedly disclosed to the informant that they needed to “pay the Bidens” to mitigate the investigation into Burisma by Ukrainian prosecutor Viktor Shokin, which also hindered their entry into the U.S. market. According to the informant, the payments were made through complex routes involving multiple bank accounts, making it difficult for investigators to uncover these transactions for at least a decade.
During his vice presidency, Biden successfully advocated for the firing of Shokin, who was investigating Burisma. His dismissal was allegedly due to his leniency towards corruption, which was a concern to the U.S. and international communities. Biden later referred to these events during a Council on Foreign Relations event in 2018.
In 2019, then-President Donald Trump urged Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to launch investigations into the Biden family’s business dealings in Ukraine, including their ties to Burisma and Shokin’s dismissal. The Democrats perceived Trump’s request as a quid pro quo, as millions of dollars in U.S. military aid to Ukraine had been suspended.
Democrats accused Trump of attempting to interfere in the 2020 Presidential Election by investigating his political adversary. Trump was acquitted by the Senate in February 2020.
The confidential informant warned the Burisma executive to sever ties with the Bidens due to potential investigations into their interactions. The executive allegedly considered the informant’s advice valuable, referring to them as an “oracle.”
The FD-1023 document, which recorded the informant’s report, was subpoenaed and released by the House Oversight Committee after a series of exchanges with the FBI. The White House has consistently denied any involvement of President Biden in his son’s business activities, stating that the two have never discussed such matters. Hunter Biden is currently undergoing a federal investigation regarding his “tax affairs,” prompted by suspicious foreign transactions detected in 2018.
