Representative Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) has initiated a resolution to remove Democratic California Representative Adam Schiff from the U.S. House of Representatives, as per information obtained by The Daily Caller; all but six Republican congressmen echoed Luna’s call to action.
The justification for this move, as stated by Luna, is rooted in the Durham Report, which she believes substantiates her contention that Schiff is unfit for congressional service.
According to Luna’s assertions, “Adam Schiff lied to the American people. He used his position on House Intelligence to push a lie that cost American taxpayers millions of dollars and abused the trust placed in him as Chairman. He is a dishonor to the House of Representatives.”
She further claimed that the Durham Report categorically exposes that the allegations of Russian collusion were a deliberate misinformation campaign from the outset. Luna accused Schiff of leveraging his position to cause a schism within the nation.
Notably, six Republicans abstained from casting their vote on the censure. These were Representatives David Joyce (R-OH), Michael Guest (R-MS), Andrew Garbarino (R-NY), Ken Buck (R-CO), John Rutherford (R-FL), and Michelle Fischbach (R-MN).
In explaining this voting behavior, it was noted that members of the Ethics Committee frequently vote “present” as a method to abstain from influencing investigations prior to their formal presentation to the committee. Five out of the six Republicans who voted “present” are members of the House Ethics Committee, with Buck being the only exception.
In a clarification on the voting stance, Garbarino stated, “To say that Republican Members of the House Ethics committee broke with our party on this vote would be inaccurate. Rather, we preserved the integrity of the investigation into Congressman Schiff… If we would have voted for the Resolution, it could have triggered a process for Congressman Schiff to request we recuse ourselves, effectively shutting down the investigation.”
In related developments, Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy has barred Schiff from the House Intelligence Committee. Additionally, Republican Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz introduced legislation proposing a vote on whether Schiff should be disallowed from viewing or accessing any classified information.
