The professional Dominican basketball player, Óscar Cabrera Adames, tragically passed away this week, suspectedly due to a heart attack during a stress test at a health center in Santo Domingo. Cabrera Adames, who was 28 years old at the time of his death, is believed to have suffered from myocarditis, a disease which weakens the heart and its electrical system, thereby affecting its ability to pump blood effectively.
Following his death, posts on social media revealed Cabrera Adames’ own concerns about his health condition. He wrote, “I got a damn Myocarditis from taking a f—ing vaccine. (I got 2 doses of Pfizer) And I knew it! Many people warned me.” The vaccine was a requirement for his work, despite him having no prior health issues. He said, “It was compulsory or I couldn’t work. I am an international professional athlete and I am playing in Spain. I have no health problem, nothing, not hereditary, no asthma, NOTHING! I suddenly collapsed to the ground in the middle of a match and almost died.”
This earlier collapse took place during a Spanish Amateur Basketball League game in 2021, after which he was rushed to the hospital. Cabrera Adames underwent a series of cardiology tests, but doctors reportedly found no evidence of any health problem.
It remains uncertain whether the stress test directly triggered Cabrera Adames’ fatal heart attack. He was the nephew of Hugo Cabrera, a renowned figure in the Dominican Sports Hall of Fame. Before turning professional, Cabrera Adames had played basketball at Daytona State College in Florida.
