Former President Donald Trump, along with 18 other individuals, has officially been indicted by a Fulton County grand jury. Georgia District Attorney Fani Willis has set a deadline until noon on August 25 for them to surrender to authorities.
During a press conference held on Monday night, Willis emphasized her intent for a trial to commence within the next six months. The indictment’s backbone stems from Trump’s loss in the 2020 presidential election, particularly in Georgia, in which Trump and the other defendants “refused to accept that Trump lost, and they knowingly and willfully joined a conspiracy to unlawfully change the outcome of the election in favor of Trump.”

Spanning 97 pages, the indictment outlines 41 felony counts against Trump and the co-defendants. It alleges that they “unlawfully conspired and endeavored to conduct and participate in a criminal enterprise in Fulton County, Georgia, and elsewhere.”
Prominent charges cited include violations of the Georgia RICO Act, Solicitation of Violation of Oath by a Public Officer, Conspiracy to Commit Impersonating a Public Officer, Conspiracy to Commit Forgery, and other related felonies. Notably, this marks the fourth indictment against Trump, making him the first ex-president in U.S. history to face criminal charges.

Additional high-profile individuals charged from the exhaustive investigation include former Trump White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, attorneys Rudy Giuliani, Sidney Powell, Jenna Ellis, Kenneth Chesebro, Jeff Clark, and John Eastman, along with several others.
After the 2020 presidential election, Trump purportedly had a phone conversation with Georgia’s Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger. During this call, Trump claimed victory in Georgia and pressed Raffensperger to “find” the votes required to reverse the state’s results. Trump’s exact words were reported as, “All I want to do is this. I just want to find 11,780 votes, which is one more than we have. Because we won the state.”

However, certified election results from Georgia confirmed that President Biden had won the state’s election by a margin of 11,779 votes.
Adding to the legal saga, a special Fulton County grand jury recently disclosed parts of a report based on their investigation. This report suggests that some witnesses might have perjured themselves during their testimonies. The grand jury has recommended further indictments if the district attorney deems the evidence robust enough.
