Former National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases director Anthony Fauci and his wife, Christine Grady, had a combined net worth exceeding $11 million when he retired from his government role, per Fauci’s 2022 termination report. The couple’s wealth increased nearly $2 million since before the pandemic, despite a dip in net worth from 2021 to 2022.

OpenTheBooks CEO Adam Andrzejewski, who first obtained and analyzed several years of Fauci’s disclosures, stated, “During the pandemic years, the Fauci’s became deca-millionaires with their household net worth exceeding $10 million.” He also noted that Fauci was the highest-paid federal employee, out-earning the president, and that his retirement package is estimated to be the largest federal retirement package in history.
The Faucis’ net worth expanded from $9.54 million in 2019 to $11.5 million at the end of 2022, with the increase mainly from investment gains, awards, compensation, and royalties. Their net worth decreased by $1.1 million from 2021 to 2022, reporting a combined $12.6 million net worth in 2021. The couple’s assets are spread across trust funds, retirement accounts, and college education accounts, with investments primarily in mutual funds.
Fauci’s compensation also increased by nearly $25,000 between 2021 and 2022, maintaining his status as the highest-paid federal employee. In 2022, he earned roughly $481,000 in compensation, up from the $456,000 he earned in 2021.
After stepping down from his government role, Fauci joined Georgetown University as a Distinguished University Professor in the School of Medicine’s Division of Infectious Diseases. He also holds an appointment in the university’s McCourt School of Public Policy.
Despite his successful career, Fauci has been a controversial figure during the pandemic. He acknowledged the negative impacts of “draconian” pandemic measures on the economy and schoolchildren but defended these measures as necessary to control the spread of the virus.
