President Biden’s June 16 closing remarks at a Connecticut summit on gun control sparked controversy when he declared “All right. God Save the Queen, man,” upon exiting the stage, despite the fact that Queen Elizabeth was succeeded by her son Charles approximately nine months ago.
The President’s unusual statement was met with wide-ranging speculation and criticism. “I have seen countless – and I mean countless – drunk people say something totally obscure like ‘God save the Queen’… He’s truly incapacitated,” tweeted political strategist Evan Berryhill.
Chad Gilmartin, a deputy spokesman for House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, echoed Berryhill’s sentiments, implying doubt about Biden’s mental state. “Watch me – Joe Biden,” Gilmartin tweeted, referencing the President’s common retort to critics who question his cognitive acuity. OutKick founder Clay Travis asked, “Seriously, how much longer can this keep going on?”
There was also speculation over whether Biden’s gaffe could be grounds for invoking the 25th Amendment. “Will anyone Invoke 25th amendment?” tweeted Roman Jankowski, an investigative columnist from Daily Signal.
The reaction wasn’t just from American commentators, with British citizens chiming in. Nile Gardiner, a former aide to the late Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, facetiously tweeted, “Joe Biden fully in charge of his faculties,” along with a video of Biden’s remark. Greg Price of the State Freedom Caucus Network quipped, “The dementia is so bad that he now thinks he’s British.”
This incident comes a year after dozens of Republican lawmakers, led by Rep. Ronny Jackson, demanded that Biden undergo a cognitive test or withdraw his 2024 reelection bid. They expressed concerns over his “current cognitive state and ability.”
Despite these concerns, Biden’s White House physician, Dr. Kevin O’Connor, has deemed the president a “healthy, vigorous, 80-year-old male, who is fit to successfully execute the duties of the Presidency.” However, the President’s confusing exit line from the gun control summit has rekindled questions and speculation over his mental state.
