In his latest Twitter show, former Fox News host Tucker Carlson promulgated a new theory claiming that ex-president Donald Trump is being prosecuted as a response to his outspoken critique of Washington insiders and the Iraq war.
According to Carlson, the former president’s legal woes are linked to his stance during the 2016 Republican primary debates, when he asserted that the U.S. had destabilized the Middle East with its invasion of Iraq. “Seven-and-a-half years later we can point to the precise moment when permanent Washington decided to send Donald Trump to prison,” Carlson declared.
In the debate footage Carlson played, Trump criticized Washington DC insiders, stating, “We should have never been in Iraq…they said there were weapons of mass destruction and there were none, they lied, they knew there were none.”
Carlson suggested that Trump’s accusation of “liars” had “sealed his fate,” as it implicated individuals across the political spectrum. “Hillary Clinton was guilty, but so was Paul Ryan, all of them were guilty, they all knew and they all lied, and to a person, they hated Donald Trump for exposing them,” Carlson posited.
Furthermore, he alleged that since the beginning of his administration, Trump was singled out by politicians he described as “filthy and decadent,” including Mike Pence, Nikki Haley, Mike Pompeo, and Lindsey Graham. He accused these figures of forcefully opposing Trump following charges related to his alleged mishandling of classified documents post-presidency.
Moreover, Carlson claimed the prosecution of Trump is not merely political, but also ideological. “Nobody with Trump’s views is allowed to have power in this country. Criticise our wars and you are disqualified, if you keep it up we will send you to prison,” he claimed.
Carlson concluded by arguing that Washington insiders were aiming to end Trump’s prospective presidential campaign prior to the electorate having their say. “Trump is a flawed man but his sins are minor compared to those of his persecutors. In this life we do not get to choose our martyrs, we can only choose our principles, and America’s are at stake,” Carlson concluded.
