Iowa Republican Senator Chuck Grassley announced allegations of bribery involving former Vice President Joe Biden and his son, Hunter Biden, after claiming that a foreign national recorded 17 audio files of his discussions with the Bidens as an “insurance policy.”
Fifteen of these recordings are of Hunter Biden, while two are with Joe. These allegations originate from an FD-1023 form viewed by the House Oversight Committee, implying that Joe Biden might have influenced Ukrainian energy firm Burisma to hire his son and compensate the Biden family for policy favors.
An anonymous source confirmed that the FD-1023 detailed a conversation between an FBI confidential human source and a Burisma executive, who professed to owning these recordings. The recordings themselves, however, were not part of the record.
Grassley criticized the FBI’s handling of the document, especially their decision to redact parts of an unclassified document and make Congress review it in a classified facility, reflecting the FBI’s purported disrespect for Congress.
The FD-1023 also contains allegations that the Bidens received $5 million each for their involvement. It suggests that the head of Burisma sought Hunter Biden’s board membership to exploit his father’s influence to halt an investigation by the then-Ukrainian Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin into the company. Shokin was dismissed from his role in 2016.
