Acting Justice of the New York County Supreme Court Juan Manuel Merchan, whose daughter formerly worked for Vice President Kamala Harris’s presidential campaign, was apparently a contributor to the 2020 Biden campaign.
Merchan made three separate contributions to ActBlue during the summer of 2020, according to documents filed with the Federal Election Commission (FEC). One of these contributions was made on July 26, 2020, and the FEC claims that it was intended to support President Joe Biden’s candidacy for the 2020 presidential election. The remaining two donations that Merchan made were made to the Progressive Turnout Project (PTP), which is a left-leaning PAC that encourages voter turnout for Democratic candidates, and to Stop Republicans, which is a PTP sub-project that is committed to “resisting” Trump and the Republican Party.
According to a report by Breitbart, Loren Merchan, Merchan’s adult daughter previously worked for Kamala Harris’s unsuccessful presidential campaign in 2020 and is now the president of a consulting company that proudly names the Biden-Harris campaign as its client.
This discovery was pieced together from a photograph that was uploaded to Flickr by SUNY Geneseo ten years ago. The photograph featured Judge Merchan on a panel of parents of current students or distinguished alumni who are working in the legal profession. The photograph was captioned as follows: “One of the panelists was Hon. Juan Merchan, Court of Claims Judge sitting as an Acting Justice of the Supreme Court — Criminal Term, New York County, and parent of Loren Merchan ’11.”
It was confirmed through her now-deleted LinkedIn account that Loren Merchan worked for Kamala Harris for the People in 2019 in the capacity of director of digital persuading.
In a pair of posts on Truth Social, Trump blasted Merchan as a “highly partisan” judge who “hates” him. He also called out his daughter’s left-wing political affiliations and referred to previous cases where the justice supervised a handful of high-profile prosecutions of former Trump associates.
More from Townhall:
“While he’s tough on Trump-affiliated defendants, Merchan is credited with creating the Manhattan Mental Health Court, a 12- to 24-month program that offers mentally ill criminals charged with felonies “compassionate” treatment as an alternative to incarceration. Upon successful completion, the initial pleas are vacated and the defendants re-plead to reduced charges.”
