House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) has suggested that an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden could be a “natural step forward” following investigations by House Republicans into the Biden family’s foreign business dealings.

In a conversation with Maria Bartiromo on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures,” McCarthy credited House Republicans for their probes into the finances of the Biden family, particularly those of Biden’s son, Hunter Biden.

McCarthy stated, “So, if you look at all the information we have been able to gather so far, it is a natural step forward that you would have to go to an impeachment inquiry.” He further asserted that such an inquiry would provide Congress with “the apex of legal power to get all the information they need.”
The focus of the Republican-led investigation has been on Hunter Biden’s tenure on the board of a Ukrainian energy company during his father’s vice presidency. Devon Archer, a former business associate of Hunter Biden, testified last month before the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability in a closed-door meeting. Although Archer claimed he was unaware of any wrongdoing by President Biden, Republicans insist otherwise.
McCarthy also challenged Biden’s claims of being unaware of his son’s foreign business activities, arguing that Biden was involved in his son’s business meetings and a related dinner. He further alleged that the Biden family received gifts and payments.
In addition to the House Republican probes, Hunter Biden is also under investigation by federal authorities. Following a plea deal on tax and gun charges that fell apart, Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed David Weiss as special counsel. McCarthy referenced testimony from two IRS whistleblowers who claimed the Justice Department showed preferential treatment to Hunter Biden and delayed an investigation into him.
