The Pew Research Center has just released polling data indicating President Joe Biden’s approval stands at a mere 35%, with a disapproval rating of 62%. Both figures represent the worst numbers Biden has seen during his presidency and 2024 candidacy.
These figures also reflect a marked dissatisfaction across all demographics. While Republicans appear to have voters’ trust on key issues like the economy, crime, and the federal budget deficit, Biden is having trouble securing solid support within his own party. A poll from Monmouth University reveals Democrats have a favorable view of Biden (74% to 14%), yet 44% do not want him to run for another term and an additional 30% are indifferent.
Biden’s most positive news seems to be the continued presence of former President Donald Trump, with Biden still ahead in swing state polls. However, should Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) gain momentum in the GOP primary, his relative youth and rising popularity might threaten Biden’s chances in 2024.
In sum, Biden’s reelection campaign seems to be hitting roadblocks. Despite being the incumbent, he faces significant disapproval among voters and lukewarm support from his party. Age is a concern and the question remains if the Democrats will find a more suitable candidate, or continue with Biden, whose popularity is in free fall.
