Billionaire philanthropist George Soros has been funding a network of Gen-Z TikTokers to promote left-wing causes, support President Joe Biden, and criticize conservatives. Soros’ Open Society Foundation donated $5.5 million to the nonprofit Accelerate Action Inc. in 2020 and 2021, which then granted at least $300,000 in 2022 to another nonprofit, Gen Z for Change.

Gen Z for Change is a group of 500 activists, organizers, and creators who advocate for policies such as abolishing border enforcement, defunding the police, and ending cash bail. Throughout his term, President Biden has sought the support of Gen Z for Change and other social media influencers to promote his policy agenda. These influencers have had briefings on significant issues like the U.S. aid to Ukraine and have had meetings with Biden in the Oval Office.

The funds from Soros are used by Gen Z for Change to support their network of young influencer activists. However, it remains unclear how these funds are distributed among the influencers. Aidan Kohn-Murphy, the founder of Gen Z for Change, stated that the group supports Medicare for All, the Green New Deal, Palestinian liberation, and other progressive policies.
Critics, however, find this arrangement concerning. For instance, GOP Rep. Elise Stefanik (NY) expressed concerns about George Soros funding the next generation of far-left activists on a platform that is beholden to the Chinese Communist Party.
Accelerate Action, which received two-thirds of its funding for 2020 and 2021 from Soros, is the only nonprofit to have donated to Gen Z for Change. The organization’s purpose, as per its mission statement, is to “develop and test new models for citizen organizing, particularly in communities of color… and develop deep, trusted relationships that can move people to take action.”
Despite the criticism, an Open Society Foundations spokesperson defended their actions, stating that their goal is to empower more voters, especially among younger and historically marginalized communities, to participate in America’s democracy through free and fair elections.
Soros, a 93-year-old billionaire, has a long-standing history of supporting left-wing causes globally through his Open Society Foundation.
