FBI agents fatally shot 75-year-old Craig Robertson in his Provo, Utah home while attempting to serve an arrest warrant related to threats Robertson ostensibly made against President Joe Biden on social media.
According to the prosecutors, Robertson’s exact post read: “I hear Biden is coming to Utah. Digging out my old ghille suit and cleaning the dust off the m24 sniper rifle. welcom, [sic] buffoon-in-chief!” This post was made a few days before Biden’s scheduled visit to Salt Lake City.

The FBI says it is taking the incident seriously and has begun a formal review. An official spokesperson stated: “The FBI is reviewing an agent-involved shooting which occurred around 6:15 a.m. on Wednesday, August 9, 2023 in Provo, Utah. The subject is deceased. The FBI takes all shooting incidents involving our agents or task force members seriously.” The FBI’s Inspection Division will oversee the review.
Who was Craig Robertson? Prosecutors had charged him with interstate threats, influencing federal law enforcement officers by threat, and threats against the president in the U.S. District Court, Utah district. Furthermore, allegations have surfaced suggesting Robertson also threatened Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg on social media.
Other incriminating posts allegedly showed his “intent to kill, at a minimum, D.A. Bragg and President Joe Biden.” He is also said to have made threats against other political figures, including California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D).
Supporting these claims, court documents reveal that Robertson did possess a sniper rifle, a ghillie suit, and other firearms.
The U.S. Secret Service, responsible for the safety of the president, also acknowledged the situation. A spokesperson noted: “We are aware of the FBI investigation involving an individual in Utah who has exhibited threats towards a Secret Service protectee.” They emphasized that while they remain in coordination with the FBI, inquiries related to the incident should be directed to the FBI and DOJ.
