In a recently unearthed transcript of an interview with the Justice Department, an anonymous FBI supervisor supported some of the claims made by two IRS whistleblowers regarding the slow progress of the criminal investigation into Hunter Biden.

The FBI supervisor, whose identity remains undisclosed for privacy reasons, spoke of her interactions with IRS agents Gary Shapley and Joseph Ziegler, and Delaware U.S. Attorney David Weiss, who is leading the probe into Hunter Biden. The agent confirmed that there were instances where the pace of the investigation was slowed down.
She also revealed concerns from agents that the Department of Justice (DOJ) used the 2022 midterm elections as a reason to delay action in the Hunter Biden case, despite the fact that his father, President Biden, was not up for election. She stated, “I know that that had come up… Delays related to the election? Yes, I noted that had come up.”

The agent confirmed that the offices of Biden-appointed U.S. attorneys in Washington, Matthew Graves, and Los Angeles, Miguel Estrada, decided not to bring criminal tax charges against Hunter Biden in 2021, as Weiss had proposed.
In addition, the agent acknowledged that there were communication issues between prosecutors and agents. However, she did not believe that political pressures have affected the investigation.
She stated, “I think everybody that was – and is working this ongoing matter are doing their jobs and are doing their jobs to the best of their ability. And if there’s any political, you know, or anything being politicized, that is outside of the investigative entities.”
However, the agent did note that there were indeed problems with communication among the team. She said, “I believe that includes both U.S. Attorney’s Offices and the investigative entities as well… So comprehensive of the whole team, I think that there have been communication issues.”
Despite her difference of opinion with Shapley regarding the alleged politicization of the case, the FBI agent shared that she had no reason to believe that Shapley was lying about his claims. She told congressional investigators, “My experience with Mr. Shapley is very limited. And so, with that limited experience, no, I didn’t have any thoughts that he had lied about anything.”
