Alex Soros, son of George Soros, is set to take over as the head of the Open Society Foundations, the prominent grant-making network, according to an announcement made on Monday. This transition marks a significant moment as it involves George Soros, who has been criticized for his liberal causes and immense financial influence.

Alex Soros, the second-youngest among George Soros’s five children, was selected to lead the foundation in December. He currently holds positions of significance within the Soros family’s financial endeavors, serving on the investment committee for Soros Fund Management and acting as president of the Soros super PAC.

As the successor, Alex Soros will assume control over the vast philanthropic organization that has been fueled by his father’s substantial wealth. George Soros, known for his investing career spanning five decades, has already donated $32 billion to the Open Society Foundations, which aims to combat injustice and inequality, in the words of the family.

In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, George Soros expressed that he and his son “think alike,” highlighting their shared political leanings and Alex Soros’s fervent support for causes aligned with the Democratic Party. Alex has publicly shown his support for Vice President Kamala Harris and has penned an opinion piece on CNN defending President Biden’s efforts against antisemitism.

As Alex Soros assumes this high-profile role, he may attract significant attention and become a target for political attacks. George Soros has long faced criticism due to his political and philanthropic endeavors. The Open Society Foundations shut down its operations in Hungary, George Soros’s birthplace, following pressure from Prime Minister Viktor Orban.

Recently, tech entrepreneur Elon Musk compared George Soros to the “X-Men” character Magneto on Twitter, accusing him of wanting to undermine the foundation of civilization.
