Elon Musk recently opined with Bill Maher on the dangers of the “woke mind virus” and its existential threat to civilization, citing impacts on individualism and free expression. He could not have been more on point.

Now, I know some of you might be wondering, what exactly is the “woke mind virus?” Well, as Musk explained, it’s anything that’s anti-meritocratic and suppresses free speech. He emphasized the dangers of this virus, noting that it often hinders questioning and discourages healthy debate.

But where did this virus originate? According to Musk, it’s been brewing for quite some time. He pointed to the indoctrination happening in schools and universities, which is far beyond what parents realize. As a society, we should be deeply concerned about what’s being taught to our children, especially when it comes to topics like critical race theory and sexually explicit content in books.

It is no secret that Elon Musk recently acquired Twitter for $44 billion, with plans to create a “common digital town square.” This acquisition was partly driven by the suspension of the Babylon Bee, a satirical conservative-leaning website that faced consequences for a tweet that was deemed offensive.

This is where it all comes full circle. The “woke mind virus” threatens not only our education system but our freedom of speech in the digital realm. We’re living in a time when people are afraid to express their thoughts, challenge ideas, or even ask questions without fear of being “canceled.” It has led to an extraordinary level of self-censorship; the antithesis of any society that encourages free speech.

Musk’s concern about the current state of high school and college experiences is worth noting. He points out that the experience we had 10 or 20 years ago is vastly different from what students face today. This shift in educational culture should raise some red flags. Are we nurturing a generation that will be afraid to question the status quo? Are we fostering an environment where merit and talent are overshadowed by the obsession with identity politics?

The fact of the matter is that our society is facing an existential threat from the “woke mind virus.” It’s eroding the very foundations of democracy, meritocracy, and free speech. It’s essential that we challenge this virus and fight to preserve the values that have made our society great.

It’s time to stand up and take notice of what’s happening in our schools, universities, and social media platforms. Let’s fight against the indoctrination of our youth and ensure that future generations are equipped with the ability to think critically, engage in meaningful debate, and champion the values of merit and free speech. The stakes could not be higher.
