Democrat-backed candidate Janet Protasiewicz emerged victorious over conservative Daniel Kelly in Wisconsin’s state Supreme Court race on Tuesday night. This win gives liberals control of the court with a 4-3 majority for the first time in 15 years.

Protasiewicz’s campaign became a proxy fight for Democrats in Wisconsin, with both candidates receiving donations from wealthy political donors, including California millionaire Karla Jurvetson and Democratic mega-donor George Soros, who contributed $1 million via the state’s Democratic Party. As would be expected of a Soros-backed candidate, Protasiewicz has been a part of several “weak on crime” controversies.

According to Matt Palumbo:

Protasiewicz sentenced a violent serial felon to under six months in prison for breaking his estranged wife’s face. He then gunned her down less than a year later, and nearly killed her. In another case, she released a child sex offender with no jail time – who then went on to kill a woman in a drunk driving crash.

Liberals saw Kelly’s defeat as a rejection of former President Trump.
